Week #11 in Review

Remember to be thinking about a piece of writing to read this week (all students)
 
1. Punctuation/Capitalization rule(s): Rule 11 from your EEL pg. 457
Use a comma or commas to separate the dependent clause from the independent clause in a complex sentence.

2. Homophones: EEL pg. 485
  • Student A: some-sum, one-won, none-nun   
  • Student B: pair-pare-pear
  • Student C: picture-pitcher, addition-edition
3. Grammar Charts:
Chart L (all) & Review charts C (Linking Verbs)/D (Irregular Verbs)/K (Verb Anatomy: To Be)












4. Weekly Practice sentences: EEL pg. 433 (in Sentences section of the Student Notebook)
 All 5 sentences for Week 11
 
5.  Spelling (optional): EEL pg. 467
  
6. Editing (optional): In the Editing section of the Student Notebook, your student will have their 11th week exercises

7. Analytical Task Sheet:
Beginning students: Complete tasks 1-4 (on sentences 1-4).   
Advanced students tasks 1-5 on all sentences this week.

Level A- Complete lesson #20 (Colosseum) pgs. 175-178; work on piece that will be shared in class  

Level B- Lesson #20 (Colosseum) pgs. 175-178; work on piece that will be shared in class
           
9. Vocabulary Words: These are found on the blue sheet I handed out at our parent meeting- this is the only sheet in our Vocabulary section of our Student Notebook.

 If 2 independent clauses joined by a conjunction are short and closely related in thought, the comma may be omitted.

  • Student B: missed-mist, guessed-guest, passed-past
  • Student C: ring-wring

     Use a comma before the conjunction in a compound sentence.

2. Homophones: EEL pg. 485
  • Student A: hire-higher
  • Student B: break-brake, grate-great, stake-steak, quiet-quite (not true homophones)
  • Student C: sign-sine
3. Grammar Charts:

    Charts: K (and review C- linking verbs only, D- irregular verbs, E- predicate nouns/nominatives)
